About

Hi! If you’ve come to this page, you probably want to know a little about who I am. Angry Parrot is handmade jewelry made by me, Shannon Hauppa. Why Angry Parrot? It was a name that my husband and I had tossed around for years back in the early ‘00’s. My husband had the idea that it would be a business that we ran. As big music lovers, and having spent a good chunk of our twenties playing in a band together, we thought maybe we’d open a record store and call it Angry Parrot. Since we had other careers, we never really got around to opening that music shop, and now that everyone streams music, it’s just not in the cards anymore.

As a way to use the name, I started doing web design work under the name Angry Parrot sometime around 2003/2004. I’ve always been a crafty person. I have a background in fashion design, so color, shape, and design have always been something I enjoy putting together. Angry Parrot has changed directions several times over the years. I started out with web design, moved on to making handbags and accessories, paper goods, and even soap.

After the birth of my first daughter in 2008, I started playing around with making baby items. I started with dresses and diaper bag organizers. I love shoes, so it was only a matter of time before I started to design baby booties. I love mixing colors and prints, so while I was pregnant with my second daughter, I started making soft sole, baby booties with contrasting prints that were not only functional for keeping little feet warm, but they were cute and colorful too. Though people loved what I was making, being a mom with two small kids made it hard to keep up. After a couple of years, I took a step back to just spend time with my family.

A few years ago, I ran my own clothing boutique out of my home, and one thing I learned was that accessories make the outfit. I love bold pieces, big and small. I’m particularly drawn to bright colors and vivid prints. I have lots of jewelry from many local artists and friends, but I felt like this was a good time to try my own hand at getting into jewelry making and see what I can create. I am self taught, and I’m learning new techniques everyday. I hope you love your new pieces, as much as I have loved creating them.
